Have four VZ24 Lions Head Crest actions. Two are already at the smiths and two are waiting to be sent. I’ve already decided to put a 458 Win Mag on one. Need help deciding what to put on the other three! Please post any suggestions.

Any responses would be appreciated….

Matt V.

6.5-06, 338-06, 375 Ruger, 280 Remington are all excellent choices.

Don't build anything you can buy ready made Big Grin
Maybe a 9X57 with a .358 groove dia,
a .358 Norma, .30/338, 6.5 X 54 MAUSER (NOT MANNLICHER),
If you want easy a .257 Roberts would be a natural as would a 6.5X55.

Ireload2,

That’s the idea I’ve had, just wanted to see what others thought. I’d like to do something different that is not readily available in an “over the counter†package.

Thomas,

I also was thinking of a 358 Norma & 458 Win Mag matched pair so to speak. Awesome for a plains game & buffalo hunt!

.366,

I’m actually thinking of not sending the other two to the smith. Might hold one back for collectors sake, and might have to send one to el Jeffe! If Jeffe wanders across this thread perhaps he could pm me with details (availability, cost, & turnaround time). I may not be able to do anything right away but would like some food for thought.

Thanks to all for your above replies.

If anyone else wanders across this thread please post your ideas! I’m very indecisive and could use all the help I could get!

Thanks again

Matt V.

Matt,
thanks.. what would you be interested in making... you can do, easily, all of the 308 and 30-06 sized cases... little work for a 376 steyr... and then work for anything up to a 550 express.

Jeffe,

I checked out your web site and the 550 Express looks very interesting. Like I said I won’t be able to do anything anytime soon. Got a little too much time and money tied up in the other two VZ actions to be staring anything new right now. I don’t have to tell you that all those accessories on custom jobs add up fast!

I hate to let my mouth write checks that my ass can’t cash. So I am not going to talk about deposits yet, but I will hold an extra VZ action back for a future 550 perhaps. What other actions are suitable for this round? If you have the time to drop me a PM perhaps with some details on cost & turn around time please do so. Nothing writ in stone, just generalizations, I understand that costs change over time.

I am a CPA and probably won’t have the time to start another custom job until late spring or early summer.

Thanks for your time…

Matt V.

Matt,
pm on the way.
the ruger 77mkii is a better, if not the best, action for the 550 express. you can actually get it to staggerfeed, rather than single stack.

What is your goal? You want your one all around battery? I think this would be cool

257 Rob
30-06 (cause everybody needs one)
375x350 rem mag will fit int he action, let you seat bullets out further in the 350 rem mag case and should give good performance
416 Taylor

that gives you a battery suitable all over the world.
