Any thoughs on this rifle? I knew it was at Cabela's for a while not too long ago. Which action is that? Is it really a std 98 action?

IF this is the one that was at Cabelas in Nebraska, I got a chance to handle it. THe workmanship is very nice with 2 great exceptions, at least to me that is.
First, the rear sling swivel stud looks like it was just screwed into the wood as an after thought, something like I might do in my garage for a gun I was going to throw in the back of my truck...very low class.
Second, and this was the big one for me, the "footprint" or area of the recoil pad/butt, was about the same as a Marlin 336. I think this gun would be downright painful to shoot. If you look on this forum, most shooters and builders of big bores like a large footprint to spread out the recoil.
The gun is built on a standard 98 action as that was what Ross Seyfried designed the cartridge to be used on.
The first problem I mentioned could be taken care of easily, but shouldn't have been a problem in the first place. As for the butt stock, well that would entail restocking.
The only way I would buy this gun would be as a barreled action and have it stocked by someone who knows how to stock such a heavy recoiling rifle.
Take a look at some of the Champions videos on this site. The recoil pad area on that gun is about 2 or 3 times as large as the gun you are looking at. Just my humble opinion.

A Squared has/had a 577 Tyrannosaur for like $3600 bucks brand new... I have the 470 capstick, and love that coil check stock with the huge footprint recoil pad and mercury reducer... I'm a big fan of these guns, and they look great and shoot great... I think they had a 470 capstick, 500 a square and one other caliber built and ready to go..

less the engravings I could build it for you for 4500...

but would suggest a 550 express or 550 magnum

don't like the toe line on it at all

great gun... grip could be a little more open... bet it's a 14.5" lop

the screws aren't in alignment... just a picking thing, but for the cost, i can pick

Ditto congomike, if that is the same rifle that was at the Sidney, Nebraska Cabela's Gun Library showroom. I was amazed at how tiny the butt was. Must have been expensive leather to cover the pad, so they made it small. Elephant hide. Baby elephant?

Even Ross Seyfried called his cartridge creation a "nightmare." More trouble than it is worth.
