Jeffe- Well maybe I'm confusing terms, but my cases have
sporting designation. And letters to prove. BUT when I got mine
I asked if there was a list of cases, on the phone, with sporting
use and they said, that they don't give out that
info, as it involves private, proprietary info.
I asked two different guys years ago.
And I ain't going to badger them..........life has enough
problems already.Ed

Karl -You can build my 585 HE fancy for 2 grand.
On a ruger, CZ, Enfield, PH, BRNO, BBK, etc.
Maybe even my 585 HSM in a PH..I'm testing one in Enfield,BBK.
And PH later.Ed

Now I get it, NFMike. This is like that Col. Sanders/KFC arrangement, isn't it?

His face is on the bucket, but he ain't in the kitchen, right? Wink

Damn if I'm not almost disillusioned. Big Grin

But this arrangement might not be a bad thing, altogether. Without Lt. Col. Alphin's influence, maybe A-Square will come up with a decent stock design. Eeker

Still, I will always be grateful to AA for coming up with the SAAMI standard .500 A-Square.

Even if Uncle John Buhmiller did beat him to the basic notion by over 20 years.

But, I, too, had better shut up. I don't want to seem an ingrate. And I am also in favor of as much employment as we can get, especially in our home-grown firearms industry. tu2

The bigger question might be ... who cares??

Does the market really need another marginally or not marginally capitalized, thrice revived custom maker in a diminishing market ..?? There are probably hundreds of looooooong established gun makers world wide producing exceptional rifles - many of whom have decades or even centuries of provenance. I can think of a dozen ways to better invest that money elsewhere.

Wayne has one of my PH actions, I left him a great piece of wood in late June, and the barrel was supposed to ship from Pac-Nor a week or two ago.

I forgot to mention my debt of gratitude to AA for his monumental, absolute best reloading manual of all time, "Any Shot You Want."

That alone should enshrine him in the Big Bore Hall of Fame.

It's just the damned railroad tie of a so-called stock that he invented that I don't like.

Unnecessarily ugly and club-like.

AHR have come up with and produce the best big bore stock - IMHO, of course.

Rich - Be prepared to do some test work with that beast.

Mike - I liked the book but loaded with errors. I sold it to an Aussie who never paid me. (maybe he was eaten by a croc ...)

Maybe he was related to Art A! LOTS of people paid him and never received anything in return other than grief and disappointment. And then there's his whole "degree in weapon systems enginnering" from a school that has never offered such a degree. I've never met the man, but character issues such as these would make me wary of doing business with him.

I thought that was a normal step in the process to recieving a custom action around here.

Its a matter of time, not principal, and they can apparently take as much time as they like, depending on their personal popularity of course Wink

Seroiusly I see this list of makers not producing, taking actions and not returning them, in court cases and other problems that we just did not see so much of in the early days of this site.

Is this some sort of internet/mail order industry phenomenon?

I called 4 different times to A SQUARE last year and Art personally returned my calls with in 24 hours on 3 of them and in 48 hours on one. He was out of town and could not check messages. I sent him a 500 A Square to fix and he fixed it and did not even charge me for it. I got it back in about 4 weeks fixed. I like my 500 A Square even though the stock aint the most beautiful. My fiberglass stock looks better. The rifle itself shoots great.

Lots of useful, if anecdotal, info here.

All I know is this: both the Dead Tough and Monolothic are superb. When you can get them.

my experiences with A Square have been hit or miss. Back in late 2003, I ordered some ammo in 416 Rem, had sticky bolt lift, plus the cases that were left in the car overnight (in Nov) had some green corrosion (similar to an old copper penny) on them the next day. Never had that problem occur with any other maker of brass. Towards the beginning of this year,my friend and I tried several times to contact Art or A-Square, and was only left with a messaging service. We stated we wanted to order some ammo (505 Gibbs), and to this day, have heard nothing back. However,I bought 2 boxes of 505 gibbs ammo in A Square from cabela's, and while in Montana shooting with Dan416, we chronographed them, and they were 150-250 fps BELOW the advertised velocity.

On the other hand, times in the past I have spoken with Art, he has always been very amicable and willing to answer any and all questions I had. He even autographed my copy of "Any Shot You Want", and seems to be one of, if not the primary, resurrecting forces behind the resurgance of big bore rifles and cartridges that we enjoy today. What happened to him (ATF B.S.) and to his company and credibility is sad. I wish him all the best. Just my .02 cents.
