475 Ackley?
Anybody have any experience with this wildcat?

The 470 Capstick is basically a 475 Ackley. What one can do the other can do. Both are the 375 H&H case opened up to 475.
Take care

Dave is right, of course. The biggest difference is that the Capstick has a ghost shoulder and therefore uses a 2-die set, whilst the .475 Ackley uses a 3-die-set like the .458 Lott, making the .470 Capstick easier to load.

I love my 470 capstick, but my CH Tool dies are a 3 die set... I haven't used them yet, but match grade did to make my last order... some 400 grain "practice" loads... Someone posted A Squared had some new Hannibals with the Coil Check stocks for like $3100, and $3650 for the 577 TRex... I'd love to get another one, but my double ate my play money...

Isn't that third die just used to bell the case mouth for easy seating?

I think this ghost shoulder stuff is BS.

Any straight walled case inside-diameter is going to be sized down below bullet diameter when resized.

Then when the bullet is seated it is going to bump it to parallel sided along the length of the bullet shank.

Does a ghost shouldered chamber have a tighter neck? That might not be good in a DGR.

There is no significant difference between the .470 Capstick and the .475 Ackley.

All straight walled/non bottle-necked cartridges ought to be loaded with a three die set, but the bevel on the base of the bullet is enough to get by with only a 2-die set.

And first it was the 475 OKH-
Oneil-Keith-Hopkins--back 65 years ago.
And as for ghost shoulders, parellel side
worries for bullet fit, it's a waste.
reason is Capstick/OKH is such a shallow
angle on the side that the internal taper actually makes inside smaller at base than
mouth, due to the thicker sides of case
at the base than at the neck.H&H brass on
sides near base is .035 and at mouth .012,
.023 difference,Capstick only has .007 taper
on side.Ackley shows .008.......Ed.

RIP,

Seems to me that with a paralell neck the tension/friction between bullet and casewall wil be more even with a paralell neck, but maybe that is just splitting hairs. Theese are not made for bench rest anyway. But BS? Really? I can not see what harm they bring? Tighter necks?
Any thighter than any other botleshaped cases?

Thanks,
