What is the difference between a 550 Magnum and the 550 American Safari Magnum? I can not find the just Magnum listed in a gun blue book. Maybe older? Is there a lot of difference between the price of a 505 Gibbs and the 500 Jeffery in the American? Only the Gibbs was listed.
Thanks in advance

The stock. The "American" has a straighter stock with less drop and is better suited for scope use than the two versions the rest of the world gets. The straighter part is fine, but its sort of thick all over and has enough wood on it for two stocks. The two other versions are the Bavarian, and a slimmer stock that while called an American pattern isn't the same one CZ USA puts on. I haven't been paying attention lately but at one time the barrelled actions would arrive stateside and be stocked there. Might have changed since.

You could buy the Hogback gun and then buy a "takeoff" American stock from AHR.

Both the 500 Jeffery and the 505 Gibbs are only available in the "custom shop" model, which is around $3K MSRP, but you can find them around the $2,200 mark.

same action
different stock
505, 500, and 450 rigby are all custom built in the US -- oh, yeah, you can get a .550 magnum on a 550 magnum

the 450 rigby, and up, are built by a custom shop in the states, and are therefore more expensive

i BELIEVE the "American" stock is also a replacement stock, or is an action stocked, when is arrives in the US, but that's likely conjecture on my part

There is no difference, both are made in Brno by CZ, they get stamped in the US with CZ USA on them.
The 'American' style stock is available from either CZ BRNO made rifles, or CZ USA.
I have the custom shop 505 Gibbs, it came with xxx grade english walnut, mecury reducer, jewelled bolt and other extras. It is worlds above my stock Safaris when new and untouched. None are stock now.
Hope this helps.

Cheers.
