I'd like to collect some data from the Brotherhood on the caliber gun you actually used. Pse only respond if you actually have shot a cape buff.

Question:
What caliber gun did you use to hunt cape buff.

Choices:
45-70
Big Bore Pistol-
40 -44 caliber rifle
.458 win
.458 Lott/Ackley/watt etc
.475 .470NE etc
.500( .500NE, .500a2 etc.
.500-.550
.550-.600
.600 ( .600NE, .600OK)
>.600 ( .700NE, 2 Bore, 4 Bore 12Ga
< .40-( i.e .375 H&H)
<.375-( 762X39), 30-06,.22LR

Rob,

Your poll only allows one answer.

Buff #1 - .375H&H, 300gr. Swift A-Frames
Buff #2 - .470 Capstick, 500gr. Woodleigh softs, 500gr. Hornady solids

RGB,

450 Dakota, A-frame 500gr SP, then Barnes 500gr solids. He never moved 10 feet after I hit him with the SP, but you know how buff are. The solids just finished him off quickly.

Only once so far:

.416 Rigby with 350 gr Barnes X at 2700 fps.

I think based on what I saw that time, I'd prefer to carry a rifle of 40 caliber or larger. Would love to go after them with the .458 AR bolt rifle and my .470 NE Searcy.

I think those are large enough and don't beat me up too badly.

Buff #2: 416 Rigby, 400 gr Swift A-Frame.

Good luck,

Didn't realize it would only allow one caliber until after I checked "Big Bore Pistol" (you meant, of course, Revolver, yes?).

1 - 500 S&W 440gr CastCore
6 - 416 Rem 400gr A-Frame followed by 500gr Barnes solids as necessary on 3
2 .458 Lott 500gr A-Frame followed by 500gr Barnes solids

The first one was with a .375 H&H. The second was with a .458 WM. Buffs 3,4,5 & 6 were with a .458 Lott. By far, the .458 Lott was the most impressive buffalo "killing machine" I have ever used. This year, I'm using a .416 Rigby. I'll let you know how this works out.
