I'd like to collect some data from the Brotherhood on the caliber gun you actually used. Pse only respond if you actually have shot a cape buff. RGB, 450 Dakota, A-frame 500gr SP, then Barnes 500gr solids. He never moved 10 feet after I hit him with the SP, but you know how buff are. The solids just finished him off quickly. Rich Buff Killer | |||

Killed both a cape buff and elephant with a 458winmag. Both under 25 yards. Both with 450gr barnes at 2300fps+ Buffalo two shots an xbullet up the backside and a solid in the lungs. Dean | |||

Only once so far: .416 Rigby with 350 gr Barnes X at 2700 fps. I think based on what I saw that time, I'd prefer to carry a rifle of 40 caliber or larger. Would love to go after them with the .458 AR bolt rifle and my .470 NE Searcy. I think those are large enough and don't beat me up too badly. I used the following, all with very good results on Cape Buffalo: 1) 375 H&H with 270 grain TSX @ approx. 2700 fps. 2) 416 Rigby with 400 grain TSX @ approx. 2500 fps. 3) 458 Lott with 500 grain TSX @ approx 2250 fps. 4) 458 Lott with 500 grain Woodliegh softs @ approx. 2250 fps. 5) 470 Nitro Express 500 grain North Fork Cup Points @ approx. 2150 fps. 6) 470 Nitro Express 500 grain Woodleigh softs @ approx. 2150 fps. | |||

The first one was with a .375 H&H. The second was with a .458 WM. Buffs 3,4,5 & 6 were with a .458 Lott. By far, the .458 Lott was the most impressive buffalo "killing machine" I have ever used. This year, I'm using a .416 Rigby. I'll let you know how this works out. Bull1 | |||
