I've had a number of big bore safari rifles, but never a 500 Jeffery. I'm contemplating getting one, and looking for comments from those who use one. They take .510 bullets like my 500 NE, so that would be helpful. Where do you get brass without taking out a mortgage on it? Shootability in a 10-11 lb rifle?

10 - 11 Lbs in a WELL fitting, balanced rifle should be fine depending on how sensitive to recoil you are. Put a good pad on it like a Limbsaver. Brass - you have to buy it anyway and if you can get to the point of neck resize only, it will last ages - that is unless you shoot more than most !!! You can also download it for hogs, deer etc. 440gn bullets. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

I have built 3 and kept one. Then designed the 500 accrel to do the same thing. Anything over 10# is foolish. It is 535 at 2350 with 140gr of powder. That's roughly a 458 Lott with a 600 gr bullet. Kicks more than a Lott but slower. 9.5 is great for a 500 jeff. 8.25 for a 500 accrel opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Thanks, guys. The new Blaser R8 offers a Safari Package with a rifle, 2 barrels, mounts, etc in a 1750 Pelican. I can get one in 500 Jeffery and 375 H&H. I thought that such would be the perfect African trip rifle, all broken down in its compact case. I've had 600 OKs, 458s, 500 A2, etc. The rebated rim would not affect a Blaser due to the way the circle of "fingers" grab the rim on that model.

Jon, I have a CZ 500 Jeffery. Great gun but if I had to do it over again I would build one of Jeff's 500 Acc. Rel. Same ballistics in a lighter handier package but the Blaser would indeed be a fine combination as well. The 500 Jeffery is not hard to load for and brass lasts forever. Dave, yes, not much choice when you are buying a package. I like to 50 calibers over the 45's, and the Jeff is the only 50 offered.

chuck375 on here has a gorgeous .500Jeff built by AHR. I'm sure he'll be along to comment soon. I've contemplated having my .458Lott CZ rebarrelled to a .500Jeff, but keep talking myself out of it for other purchases.

Biebs, I have a Blaser R8 (steel receiver) in .500 Jeffery. Couple of thoughts. Recoil is stout in the Blaser (I also have a Weibe .500 Jeffery take down). Mine is the synthetic stock variant so a wooden stock might be a little milder. Shootable by all means, just stout. Second, the tolerances on the Blaser chamber are tight. Mine will feed and lock on Kynoch ammo with no problems. With my reloads you some times have to really ram the bolt forward to get the rifle in battery. Third, like all Blasers they are accurate as all get out and reliable. Buzz used one in .500 Jeffery for the better part of the last season, until his Heym double showed up. Mike

Thanks Brandon! I went with the 500 Jeffery for the reasons Dave Bush stated, less powder = less recoil, with as much performance as I can handle. Also the amount of bolt face left on a CZ 550 in 505 Gibbs is truly scary. I'm sure it's safe, it's just scary. I think the Gibbs is just a truly impressive cartridge, but I would go with an action with a larger bolt face. I get 2300 fps with a Barnes 570 TSX with great accuracy and recoil that is not bad at all offhand. Crank it up to 2500 fps and it's a beast. Thanks, guys. Mike, I've had Blasers for years, and yes, they are not forgiving of out-sized brass. It almost makes sense to fire-form a couple factory cartridges, then send them to Huntington to have dies made for those specific dimensions. The "package" just makes so much sense to me...a Pelican case with cutouts for the stock, 2 barrels in 500 Jeff and 375 H&H, magazines, boltheads, slings, and scopes, all broken down into a 30" or so travel case. Nice! :-)

It was commissioned by Professional Hunter Supply and made by Hornebre. I have sold a bunch of it direct to some PH"S in Rhodesia who find it to perform perfectly. I have a few hundred left @ $2.50 each. Frank
