Kynoch split cases Login/Join

Well, I just opened a five pack of fresh Kynoch in .505 Gibbs and found one cartridge with a case that had split all the way down to the shoulder. Is it just my bad luck to find the one or has anyone else experienced problems with this ammo?

I don't know but I ordered a 5 pack of 500 Jeffery ammo with 535g Woodleigh softpoints just to check feeding/extraction and have a factory example to start loading to with my 535g Woodleighs. Mine should come in Wed. I'll be sure to look them over real well. Hopefully it's an anomaly and you get your money back! At $20 bucks a round they're not cheap!

What did the retailer say about your ammo? It will interesting to hear what the manufacturer has to say about the split case.

Telly, It is not bad luck. The brass maker did not anneal the case neck. The ammo is not "fresh".

Chuck375, The .500 Jeffery has two different case designs; the Jeffery and the 12.7x70 Schuler. The .500 Jeffery has a 13 degree shoulder angle and the .500 Schuler (12.7mmx70mm) has 20 degree shoulder angle. Send fired brass to RCBS to determine chamber before buying dies.

I already bought 500 Jeffery CIP dies but if they're wrong I can return them. I have a CZ 550, the barrel/rechambering was done by the guys who do the CZ Custom shop work, so hopefully I have the right dies. Do you know if the Kynoch 500 jeffery ammo is Jeffery or Schuler?

As a follow-up to my story, I checked around and found tha Midway USA is now the importer for Kynoch. They did not have any .505 on hand nor did they know when they would get any. I went ahead and e-mailed Kynoch in England and they were most apologetic, but alas they were not shipping anything over .50 to the U.S. at this time due to State Department restrictions. On a tangent but in reference to the Jamison brass I bought some 416 Taylor brass from Jamison a couple years back and he called me, let me say this again...HE CALLED ME...not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES to make sure I had gotten the brass and was happy with it. Moral to this story? If you buy brass from Jamison be prepared for extra personal service, which is something I am not used to in this day and age.
