Weaver K2.5 on a .404 Jeff? Login/Join

I am trying to find a 2.5 fixed power scope for my .404 Jeffery. I am going to try to do a Buff hunt with a peep sight, but I want to bring the scope along "just in case".

I have not had any luck finding a 2.5x fixed power scope, except for the Weaver K2.5 you see on Ebay.

Would one of these hold up on a .404 jeff?

IMHO, a bit more magnification might come in very handy. You could see them bad boys a bit farther out, and not be able to make the stalk on the bull of a lifetime. 4X sounds about right. After four and a half days and 90 miles of tracking, I had a perfect braadside shot, at 165yds! The 1.5-5X made it easy. What sort of budget did you have?

Most scopes, maybe all, will pound apart eventually but few are as rugged as the old steel bodied K series Weavers.

Seems few today appreciate the value of the wide viewing angle AND ruggedness of a fixed low power scope.

Burris makes a 2 3/4 IER scope; I used to have mine mounted on my .500 A2, but have dropped down to a 1x. I didn't put a zillion rounds through the rifle, but I did (do) shoot it regularly and the Burris hasn't had any problems (so far).

An old Weaver K2,5 would be perfect for your .404!

Hello,
I recently went through the same search you are doing and ended up w/ Leupold 2.5 Ultralight FXII scope and spoke with some who already had them on 458Lotts, 375HH, etc. and have had no problems with them. I have probably put nearly 40rnds through mine since purchase and seems to be holding up well. The rifle is Ruger No.1 Tropical SS 458Lott and you can definitely load some stout loads with the rifle. Just a thought.

If you get a K2.5 Weaver make sure it is a Micro-Trac or the boat anchor version before the Micro-Trac name with the brass turret liners.

pevtsovy,

Most all the reports of the El Paso Weavers I've read have been good!! So I put one of the steel K2.5s on my 9.3x62. Worked great, magnification was enough - no problem.

BUT I did break it due to recoil at the bench within 6 months. The inter lens in the bell broke loose, when to pieces and got into the cross-hair. My experience was bad but most others seems good. So, I really can't recommend either way.

ive been shooting the old steel tube el paso weavers since i started shooting in 1969.... at age 11 i had a 4x on a .243... i like the denver redfields too... they seem to be a bargain compared to the leupolds.... a decent 3-9 steel weaver will bring about $125... some more, depending on crosshairs.... ive not had any problems with them....

I have been using K2.5 and K3's, steel tube El Paso since 1958. Never a failure. I used them on some big stuff like .378 Wea., wildcats equal to .450 Ackley mags and etc. I've never felt shortchanged or unhappy

FWIW I am using a K-1 on a .450 Rigby Rimless Mag

Leupold makes an Ultralight 2.5x fixed. It has a long eye and is okay for a hard recoiling rifle.relief.http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/ultralight-riflescopes/fx-ii-2-5x20mm-ultralight/

I use a 2x20 Leupold EER pistol scope on my 404 and have had no problems at all. Duplex reticle and great optics fine for longer range shots.
