BUCK, Thanks for the great post on your rifle and it's history! That is why the troops love this web site; every now and then somebody hits a grand slam... D/R Hunter Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

Hello D R Hunter, Thanks. I took it for a walk to the range today .... 20 shots later I had put 114 tons of energy into the backstop. buckstix, Yep, this thread is epic for sure. Which rifle dumped the tonnage into the berm? "It" could only mean the Dickson, eh? Any progress on getting that 20-.577 Alex Henry Nitro Express Dickson rifle shooting parallel to infinity? I am still working on a Ruger No. 1 20 Gauge 3.5" Hellboy ... one of these days ... I'll post it here. Meanwhile, I'm also trying to get an "RBL Professional" 20-bore "double rifle" to shoot parallel with round balls. 167 grains H2O case capacity for 2-5/8" case with 330-grain round balls and Blue Dot, 245 grains H2O case capacity for 3-1/2" case with 920-grain slugs and ReLoder 17. Here's a cartoon of the RBL "Round Ball Load":

Hello RIP. No, it was the 600JDJ that did all the berm poundage. I've got the load figured out for the 20-.577 Dickson, but havent tested it yet. Hope to try it next week. Hi Buckstix, Great article and history. I too am fortunate to own a double: a 1906 Cogswell & Harrison hammer gun in .450 Nitro Express 3 1/4". I have had some success loading a 500gr. paper patch cast bullet with dacron filler and 85gr of Reloader 17. PM me and we'll have a chat if you want? Regards Clive

The Ruger No.1 20 Gauge 3.5-Inch is officially under construction. Donor rifle and barrel went to Rusty today. The PT&G reamer for was waiting there at Hilltop Gun Shop. The Verney-Carron barrel I got from Ed Hubel will be turned down from 1.350" diameter to 1.200" straight cylinder and cut from 30" to 28" finished length. 1:28" twist, .615" groove diameter. Plus screw-on muzzle brake for big charges of RL-17 with 920-grain slug ... I think Rusty McGee can do a swell job on this. He will take the action off the donor rifle, re-barrel with the V-C and re-stock with a B&C composite stock. I have ordered steel picatinny rail in 18" pieces that he might be able to use to make a full-length "picatinny shotgun rib." 2.5X scope. AR-15 open sights on the picatinny rib-rail, maybe an AR-15 carry handle, and some picatinny bases on the bottom and sides of the barrel for lasers, flashlights, bipods, sling bases, etc. Quad rail? The 20 Gauge Ruger No.1 is going to look a little different from the 500 A2 below:
