If 375 counts, my project is using a pair of M70 actions. I don't have the level of knowledge or experience some other forum members do, but I have spent a considerable amount of time educating myself about the Winchester and Mauser actions. In short, the M70 seems to be an action choice that will serve one's needs well. I also think it is important to work with a competent gunsmith who understands the needs of such a rifle (read: reliable feeding!)and who has worked on such projects before. As a final point, I have reached the conclusion that a well fitted stock is also of paramount importance for the hunter as it houses the action and barrel allowing them to perform their work.

Winchester Model 70, maybe an MRC, Ruger M77 as a last resort. If you're not particular about CRF vs. PF, add Remington 700, Savage 110. George

So far its a CZ 550.I am considering using it on a expensive piece of wood.It is the smoothest action I have tried.I own Sako,Rem 700,Win mod 70,Ruger.The CZ action has a new bolt handle and it has been smoothened.I think the Win would also be smooth if it was worked on but I like a one piece bolt.It is also a VERY simple action and its bolt lets me inspect the firing pin and spring easily.

You can still get a mauser. Here is mine built on a Zastava Left hand action. It is a 35 whelen. I have another Left hand masuer being turned intoa 7x57. My project after that one will be a 375HH based on a left handed M70 that I picked up just as they anounced that they would end M70 production.
