Guys, do any of you have any suggestions as to a good practice bullet for the .404 and .500 Jeffery? On my .375 and .416 I will usually shoot a plain old Hornady Interlocks at the range when we are fun shooting and then switch to a Woodleigh when we are actually hunting something. However, I have not been able to find a similar low cost alternative to the Woodleighs for my .404 and .500. Anyone have any suggestions? Dave I don't know if you like cast bullets or not. But beartoothbullets.com have 380gn .404 bullets and they size them to fit your bore. You might call Marshall Stanton the owner, I've spoken to him a time or two and was very helpful. I haven't used them yet yet have read a lot of good things about them. And have heard you can get very good velocity with out leading. Also are reported to be very accurate. And cheap about $15 per 50. Though you do need to clean the bore when switching from jacketed to lead or back. Allen It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

Dave, try emailing Bob Benny bill10@verizon...He makes quite a few cast bullets and is dirt cheap for bullets cast with Lyman #2 alloy. 50 500gr 510 bullets are 9 buck give or take plus shipping which is 5 dollars. He also combines orders up to 40 pounds for the same shipping charge. Joe "I can't be over gunned because the animal can't be over dead"-Elmer Keith

I was looking for inexpensive jacketed bullets & turned to the 300gr/.429 44mag bullet. You can size them down in an inexpensive Lee sizer using Imperial sizing wax. I use a .427 (44-40) & then .423. Running them at 2400fps, they are accurate to at least 100yds & very cheap. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Dave, Contact whomever imports Bertram brass in the States and get them to hassle Bruce for his projectiles. Currently AUD$88 per 100 ... 50cal (0.510") cup and core 440gr (I think), 535gr, and 570gr. Nothing flash, but they make holes in paper targets. His 250gr .35cal I've tried and they're accurate enough. When I get a 458AR built I'll be trying his 458cal as they're the same price as above. Dirt cheap .50cal bullets I reckon! Spoke with Bruce yesterday and prices will be rising due to lead/copper increases ... but they're still cheap pills for a 50cal hunting rifle. Cheers... Con

I think Hawks are fairly cheap bullets and they would make a good practice bullet..I would not use them on game as I have had way too many failures even on light game. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Ray, you can get Woodleighs for almost the same price & they are more accurate. I buy 35grSP from Midway when they have coupon sales. They are great for practice & you can actually hunt w/ them. I would think they would be a great elk, moose or plainsgame bullet @ 2500fps. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!
