A couple weeks ago I purchased a Weatherby Mark V DGR in .458 Win from Biebs. Yesterday I mounted a new Leupold VX2 1-4x20mm on it and took it for a test drive....it is a shooter!! I'm shooting factory Barnes 450 gr. TSX ammo. Put these 3 shots within about 3/4" at 100 yards.

I know people like to talk down on the Weatherby's....but I think I'll keep it! tu2

Looks like a handy pig set up for east Texas.

I believe you got a smoking deal on it as well.

I have always felt it made a heck of a good hammer on a lot of different game. I owned a Steyr-Mannlicher 450 Marlin and had some stout 350 X-Bullet loads. It was devastating on anything that came in its way.

BTW, did you guys make it to Argentina?

I assume you mean for our honeymoon? No

We are getting married in January....and we actually decided to go to Hawaii instead. Argentina involved too much travel/logistics. We still want to go for sure....just not for our honeymoon.

We want to stay in one place and not travel....and the main reason we wanted to do Argentina was for the wine country, and that ended up being too much driving.

Hopefully when I do make it down to Argentina, I will have either a rifle or shotgun or both with me tu2

Congrats on your accurate new rifle!
It is always encouraging to learn that you have a shooter.
My daughter's Mark 5 Weatherby 7mm W Mag also is sub minute of angle accurate with Weatherby ammo, which is the only brand ever fired in it.

I like this idea lol. How long is the barrel? I chopped my 458 Lott to 21".

I am back from a long Hiatus... or whatever.
Take care.

+1 on a 22" .458!

Congratulations on your new rifle. My Model 70 is an MOA rifle as well. The 458 Win is a VERY versatile and useful cartridge from a loading standpoint - up & down!

Cheers & good hunting!

I would leave at 24".

Or at least wait until you play with it some more.

Also, a shame to cut the front sight off that rifle.

Don't worry...I won't be cutting the barrel.

Nice rifle and good shooting.
Oh do I wish that Barnes would produce a 400 gr TSX.

Looks like you have Talley's on it. I recently put a 4x Leupold on mine using Talley QD rings and will try it out sometime soon I hope.

I need to ask, did you just fire it off the bench or were there any lead shot-filled bags involved?

Actually they are Leupold QRW rings...

Haha no lead shot-filled bags....I just shoot off sandbags.

However, with the bigger guns I do build up the sandbags tall enough to where I'm more upright and not hunched over while I'm shooting.

By the way...I had the chance to test it out last week on a young hog. I was able to put a 450 gr. TSX in this pig's noggin at 50 yards.
