Guys,

Anyone use the 350 gr Speer MagTip .426 bullet on game?

I've used them on paper but not on game. Curious how they'd do on gsme that doesn't need a Barnes X bullet.

Thsnks,

Mike

Worked fine for me on one cow elk many moons ago (actually I thought it was better than the 325gr Barnes X I used later). So there you have a sample size of 1 on an elk.

I shot a 490 lb blk bear with them this fall broke both shoulders the spine and traveled down the off side leg for around 39 inch of total pen.

If you want to see pictures of it go to sept 12 under big game forum and find the story BIG BLK BEAR SHOT TODAY. I also have shot a couple of deer with them and got end to end holes.

They seem to work fine.

p dog hunter,

Nice bear! Congratulations.

Am a little concerned about the bullet ... it worked for you at 2450 from a .416 Taylor, but I'm pushing it at almost 2700 fps from a Rigby. Gives me the same impact point as my heavy game Barnes X load.

Mike,
i am using them in my 416 AR for plinkers... they are a bit explosive, and it nearly totally skinned a boar raccoon at 25 yards!! LOL

Jeffe,

THAT's what I was worried about! Guess I'll have to keep using them on paper and use the real deal (Barnes Xs) on game. I'm not surprised Wink

As with any cup core lead bullet you push them to fast they are going to come apart.

2700 fps is most likely to fast for the mag tip don't think they were designed for that kind of vel.

At that speed use the barnes X or Tripple shock.

@ 2700 fps I would think the bonded or monometal bullets would excell ..I shoot them from my Red Mister, and they go well with it,s name.........for saveing meat I slow them down or head shoot... I,m very satisfied with them as they are nice and accurate in my rifle and much more affordable than any other jacketed bullets ..They have a good ogive and a fairly good point for the longer shooting....I,m shooting them at a bit over 2600 fps...The more shooting I do with them the less I need to shoot up the X bullets when hunting........I feel bad blowing off expenisve bullets for blastin.......

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

What do you plan on shooting with them?

I cannot immagine it not working on medium game. Infact my bets are it would work better that the heavily constructed bullets.

Next time I see a box I am going to buy them, might use one on a bear.
