Going to try to load some .458 Lott using Fed. 215 Primers and Barnes 450 grain Triple Shocks.
Suggestions appreciated.

Although a 500 grain load is not directly responsive to you question, keep in mind that the Barnes TSX (and X) are loooong bullets, which eat up powder capacity, so you may find that even 500 grain data is a bit stout for 450 grain pills when the pills in question are Barnes.

I like:

500 grain Woodleigh
82.0 to 84.0 grains IMR4320
F215 primer

No pressure signs in my rifle.

But the Barnes manual says that IMR4320 tops out at 83.0 grains with a 450 grain bullet. Probably they are running into more pressure with the Barnes bullets than with Woodleigh due to (i) inability of the Barnes to obturate, and (ii) pure copper construction of the Barnes, which leads to more friction over the same surface area compared to an alloy. However, my manual was printed prior to introduction of the TSX so perhaps pressures have dropped with the new design.

Call Barnes and they'll give you the info.

Dan, you are right, the TSX bullets are very long in the same weights ... the 450 is still longer than a standard 500gr lean/copper bullet.. but FAR shorter than the 500gr TSX..

barnes presents that the TSX operates at lower pressure than their "X" bullet, given weight... which is probably not totally accurate, given that both eat case capacity rapidly.

I tried some of the original X's in 450 gr in my first Lott and found that RL-7 was too fast, and there wasn't enough room to get enough RL 15 in the case to move it along. I'm not sure waht the proper powder between those speeds would do the trick.

You all might try H-4895 in the Lott. It is a little faster burning and I am able to get the same velocities with it as with IMR-4320 using 2 to 3 grains less powder. It is also less temperature sensitive then IMR-4320. In my rifle it also more accurate then IMR-4320.
