I have used a .505 Gibbs pushing a 600 gr bullet at 2250 fps. Recoil was stout, but not at all difficult to control. It was probably near the limit of what I could control in a hunting rifle, and 12 shots or so per day is max. Smiler

647 grains @ 2150 from my Wells isn't too hard on my 155 lb frame. But I think it has alot to do with the design of the rifle and the relatively low recoil velocity. 535 @ 2400 out of Jeffe's namesake was worse, forget Harry's throttled up 505 CZ550. Big 50s are definitely a step up from the 45s however, save possibly the 460 et al.

Rob, of course, is certifiable (see, e.g., 12 Gauge From Hell), so one must consider the source. Big Grin

The .500 A2 is about as much recoil in a DG rifle as I would care to experience.

I put several rounds into an elephant last year, one to kill and the remainder for insurance. 600 grain Woodleigh bullets at 2250 fps or so.

The rifle did kick. But next time, I will be going with 570 grain Barnes bullets at 2450 or so.

So what's that tell you? Cool

I don,t know how many rounds of factory eqiv 500 A-2 I could shoot now ........I used to put 30 rounds thru mine in less than an hour............I was tough back then..........But tough may have been spelled DUMB.............I could shoot it well tho ......And it was just a nice rifle ,,,that was VERY comforting when a bear was being a problem .... Tho I never shot a bear with it ..........

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Donner,
it entirely depends on your experience level. The 458 lott is a good stout kicker, the 500 jeffe (forrest, mine weighes 8oz LESS now) a good bit more, and a full house 500a2/510 wells will certainly get your attention!!
