I have finaly decided to start my 585 Nyati project. Yes, have heard all the warnings of this cartridge, but... I just like it for some reason... Wink My gunsmith have a reamer, and have build a couple of them already, so he knows how the get them to feed. I am building it on either a cz 550, or a Magnum Mauser. Preferably the last if the price is right.

Anyway, it is not easy to get cases for this caliber ( one of the warnings...). I do have an order with Horneber which is supposed to be finished in February, but taken from those who has experience with Horneber, February = June. I have a bunch of 577NE cases which I could make in to 585Nyati, but I was hoping to find someone to have cases in stock that I could buy? Any good suggestions where to start?

I live in Norway, but have contacts in US that could send them to me. To find someone in Europe would of course be the best!

I don't know what you think of Bertram but Graf's has them.

585 Nyati Brass

Midway also has Bertram Brass.

First, save yourself grief and contact robgunbuilder and have him loan you his CORRECT reamer -- the seigfried neck and shoulder is WRONG .. and it will lead to reload troubles

bertram brass is okay for 577NE loads, but at 2200-2300 it gets REALLY sticky

Litespeed- I have built 2 585 NYATIs and I wish I could talk you out of building one and going to a .600 OK but some just need to learn for themselves. As Jeffe stated the Sigfried reamer dimensions are wrong for modern brass( He made his from .577NE brass) and you will need to have a separate piloted neck reamer made to open the neck .010 or you will never chamber a loaded round unless you are comfortable with .002 thick neck brass. The Bertram brass is TOTAL CRAP and all of it should be melted as scrap. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH IT. ITS TOO SOFT AND STICKS IN THE CHAMBER AT 2000FPS. Horneber brass is far better
but hard to find. Good luck getting it to feed after you've done all this work too. I sold most of my brass off years ago so cant help you with a source. 5 or 6 years ago I organized a group brass buy from Dieter Horneber and perhaps some of the guys who were part of it might still have some they could sell you. PM me if you want further info, but I'm no fan of the NYATI. Its 90% of the work of a .600OK to get 70% of its performance with all the problems the .600OK corrects.-Rob

Bertram brass tends to be thick near the base, so as others have stated it tends to get sticky at lower than expected chamber pressures. Other than that is should last nearly (if not) a lifetime. It is really good double rifle brass, typically.

save yourself the grief and get an AHR in Rob's killer .600 cartridge. The man has done the research, and has all the data you might want to read.
