I'd consider some of the books mentioned on these threads by Saeed and others. No offense to Capstick admirers, but I've always thought the classics by the early pioneers to be much more interesting than his books. Essentials include: African Rifles & Cartridges, John Taylor, Hunter- JA Hunter, Bell of Africa- WDM Bell, Maneaters of Tsavo- JH Patterson, African Hunter- James Mellon, African Hunter- Bror Blixen, anything by Selous, Gordon-Cumming, Samuel Baker, Lyell, Balwin, etc. There's some newer titles that are good too.
