<biff>Beginners list of African Books
I have recently read Capstick's "Death in the Long Grass" and am currently reading Ruark's "Africa", the second of which I am not overly thrilled with, I am enjoying it but it hasn't grabbed ahold of me like "long grass" did. If you were going to read no other African Books what is the definitive list??? gabe

fla3006I'd consider some of the books mentioned on these threads by Saeed and others. No offense to Capstick admirers, but I've always thought the classics by the early pioneers to be much more interesting than his books. Essentials include: African Rifles & Cartridges, John Taylor, Hunter- JA Hunter, Bell of Africa- WDM Bell, Maneaters of Tsavo- JH Patterson, African Hunter- James Mellon, African Hunter- Bror Blixen, anything by Selous, Gordon-Cumming, Samuel Baker, Lyell, Balwin, etc. There's some newer titles that are good too. I could go on.
