Looking for internal pics of Leg O'Mutton Gun Cases. I would like to make up a few of these in my leather shop but most picks I have are vague. I'm thinking they are a two layers of leather case.
Most of them here in europe are laminated cardboard covered with leather. There use to be only one internal piece; long "tongue" made from same materials as the whole case. It divides the case to two part, one for the barrel (+ forestock)-piece and other for the rest. One end of "tongue" is attached to the end wall of the barrel tunnel and the other end has a short strap. With that strap you could close the barrel tunnels end and attach it the same buckle where the cases lid will tighten. Some cases has whole lenght fixed "tongue" but I prefer the model I just described.
And do GOOGLE picture search "leg mutton gun case"
