Is there an advantage of a Rem choke tube over a Win? Are there any differences? I need to have a tube fitted to a shortened single barrel and have no background on choke tubes. All I want is for it to be flush with the end of the barrel and effective.

Find if they are good for steel shot.
No matter what they say you still have to pattern the loads - for your gun, and your ammo !!

The threads are different on Rem and Win.
Might be something to consider if you have tubes for another gun.

Never heard of one being better than the other.

The threaded chokes are usually put into barrels that have been slightly expanded during manufacturing so you probably won't have enough barrel wall thickness to be able to choose a standard factory choke design. In that case you'll need to choose a thinwall design like Briley. They've done more of those installations than anyone else. They can even slightly change the point-of-impact during installation if needed.

Mike Orlen does choke tubes for a living. He's worked on a couple of my shotguns; prices are reasonable and turnaround is fast.

His phone # is 413 256 1630. email is michael.orlean@verizon.net His instructions are simple: decide what you want, ship the barrel with a check, and you'll have your barrel back in about two-three weeks.

He spends his day working on barrels so don't expect long conversations over a couple cups of coffee.

I have been amazed at how differently shells from various manufacturers will pattern in a fixed choke gun. Before spending the money for chokes (after which you have to find the loads that give you the patterns you want anyway), I would try different commercial loads. You might be surprised.

I agree with JonP- pattern your gun with various commercial shot shells to see how it patterns on paper at 30-40 yds. Depending on what you will be shooting/hunting, you may like the results from some shot shells. If not then a threaded choke and then again pattern various shot shells with it.

First off Ya'll missed it is a shortened single barrel shot gun. Probable means the original choke of the shot gun was cut off.

I bought two boxes of 20ga shells last week end. The first factory shells I have shot since the 1970's. Just didn't have the time to set down and reload a couple boxes before I needed them.
So using reloads pattering different factory brands isn't an option.

I my self would get the rem chokes as they are easy to find, I have even seen them at Wal Mart.
