Winchester M21 question

I acquired a 12ga M21 the other day. It has 30", 2 3/4" chambers, barrels bored mod and full. Fairly decent shape, I would say about 98%. The stock has a Pachmayer pad added and what appears to be the start of a checkering job. The pattern appears to have been laid out and spaced in a skip line pattern. It is not very deep which makes me think it was started but never finished. Is it possible, as the original owner claimed, that it came from Winchester that way? I would like to determine the value and will probably sell it.

Thanks

Jim

Jim I am no expert here, but might that be what they call "flat top" checkering? The patern looks correct for the 21.

I think the flat top type would not be a skip-line.
