cloudy, "no moon" but reflected light pollution from Victoria. (Not much)

rule #1 - buy a 20 pack of duracells and put them in your hunting pack!

night vision scopes
N550+ir940 from pulsar Mine
N550+ir850w (the 850w rocks.. wish there was a 940w)
N750+ nothing (onboard only) mine
N750+ir860w

during a VERY BRIGHT and VERY windy (gusts to 28) shooting from a hill on a 1100 yard range (4x8 black painted plywood every 100 yards for later reference) - difficulty in getting sighted in until Brandon reminded us of the "one shot" feature.. 10 minutes later, it was done.

VERY hard to see the targets at 100 yards, all scopes, even when contrast turned all the way up. advantage n750, with doubler.

night - VERY cloudy, zero celestial light.
1: n750 with IR 1 (there is 3 settings) lasts about 2:15 to 2:25 minutes, fresh to power off zero- duracell batteries .. these batteries have been in my pack for over a year
2: n750 with IR on 1 is fine for over 150 yards, for counting horns without doubler, but adjusting focus
3: IR 3 with doubler and focus is still a bit grainy when picking though brush.
4: on the range at 10pm - EASILY see 700 yard "target" above, can make out 800 yard, IR on 3.
5: full moon, would likely have seen 1100 yard target, no problem
6: ir850w would have improved results

day - about 11 am
target, reddish tan blackbuck doe, 201 lasered yards, tree for rest, 308 r25, bang flllloppp
long story short, turn on doubler, focus, could have made 300 yard shot with some difficulty
BB does are kind of hard to see in daylight .. all red spectrum colors are "white" in IR

other night vision escapades
1:axis run less than 50 yards when yuo stop the truck. none harvested, would have been VERY easy
2: white tail does don't care about green "hat brim" LED lights.. MIGHT glance at light for 2 seconds.. don't care, no reaction (hint - green hunting light)
3: n750s work well enough in daylight for a general purpose scope
4: n550s run out of use, daylight, about 125 yards, in most cases.
5: n550+ir850w is a nice combo

did i mention have duracells in your pack?

guys, anything else?

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

A lesson well learned. The Sanyo Eneloops lasted well but do not trust the OEM rechargeable batteries to work when needed. Frowner

I would add that NV is tiring and your shooting eye will take a few minutes to adjust to normal after looking through NV for a minute or more.

Finally, hunting with suppressors rocks! beer

The N750 take that much more power than the N550?

Ever try the UB1213 sealed wet cell as an external power supply? Works fine with an N550.

Indeed the combination of a suppressor and even a lowly N550 is gangs of fun for piggies!
