I found it entertaining, but don't know what to think about it. Frankly, I had no idea that it was difficult to suppress a 12 gauge.

Saw that episode over here in the UK and fell about laughing. Supressed shotguns have been around for a long time over here. Do a search for "12 bore hushpower" and you'll be inundated. They do work but efficiency goes down as bore size goes up. The novelty soon wears off though because of the huge size of the can. If you don't mind carrying one around, they are very good on the ears.

One thing works against silencing a scattergun.
SPEED!

Muffling the blast is one thing but shot needs speed in order to work so they cant be both effective and slow.
Ie. the big cluster of pellets all make their own sonic boom.

The difficult part is taking into account when and where the shot wad begins to open. IMHO Someone has spent a lot of time with a high speed camera measuring the point of expansion and the rate as well.

Seems like a 48 - 50" barrel may be a little hard to swing. Maybe not.
