I found an old unfired rimfire cartridge while riding in the mountains yesterday. I have not measured it yet but it appears to be about 45 caliber , approx an inch and 3/4 OAL with a very large rim that reads F V V & Co in the center. The case tapers to the bullet from the rim in sort of a roundish manner.. Sorry I have not taken any pics of it yet. Any ideas? (When I was a kid my father used to tell me that God hated a coward, I finally realized he has even less use for a fool.)

Does sound like a 56-46 Spencer , the FVV certainly narrows the field down a lot. A picture would asist , as Ray says. ________________________ Old enough to know better
