JAG - This was produced at the subsidiary plant of Evansville Chrysler Sunbeam (note the "ECS") terminology. The second "S" indicates these are steel cased. Value? $100 . . . perhaps more for the sealed can. At present, the boxes are common as dirt. EC / ECS produced a cascade of .45 ACP, mostly steel, 1942-44. Production of this cartridge was scaled back in '44 because the predicted rate of use had not materialized. It is only my surmise, but the flood of this material in recent years reflects the release from some arsenal / NG stores / warehouses. I've never seen any documentation that this was released for combat use by our own forces. Some went out for Lend-Lease, but the majority sat Stateside "against the day" and now is crawling into the daylight. | |||
