Good luck. If you see one and get some photos, you will not be the same man again! It is a life changing spiritual expereince!

Where are you going?

My brother was at Tadoba reserve last week and saw a mother with sub adult cubs & took great picture at close range!

I was in Nagarhole for 5 days in Jan. We saw a leopard on a tree. We went out in the vans on 2 evenings & saw leopard both times. We saw no tigers but other groupd saw them daily!

I am sure you will have a great time as the summer will have concentrated the animals near warer.

Kabini River lodge is a great place to stay & the tarrifs include all safri rides.

have fun!

We had a professional guide and naturalist with us that has been doing this his whole life. We saw the tiger get out and walk away. Quite a while to observe. In fact, last year he had to track and tranquilize a real life man eater that had killed 4-5 people. Even got great photos of it. And it was not his first. Net, the guide knows his stuff and has put his life on the line face to face with these things. He also spends time in Tanzania and Namibia.

Which city do you visit?

Thadoba is an amazingsanctuary near Mumbai. Nagarhole is great - near Bangalore. There are several all around the country. But seeing a tiger is no guarantee. I have seen tiger in the wild on one occasion (3 animals in 20 minutes) out of over 100 visits in Indian reserves. I have also seen leopards 3 times on hose trips.

But it is still an incredible experience to be in the true wilderness of the Indian jungel.

Mainly Pune - but traveling in India has gotten pretty easy with all the regional airlines.

I am looking for less touristy places but my recent travels in India have shown a massive explosion in touristy stuff especially for local travelers.

As a side note Pune zoo is pretty cool (40 cent entry) they have a bunch of tigers (5) but dont display them all as the male tigers go after each other violently (point of killing each other). So a nice big display in which one tiger is let out each day.

If you fly from Pune to Bangalore (2 hour flight?) & go to http://www.kabiniriverlodge.com/, you will have a great time.

Their tarrifs include all boat, foot & vehicle trips in the sanctuary. This is the original maharaja's hunting lodge now operated by a Govt agency but done well. This is the Kabini dam side of Nagarhole national park. It has the higest density of tiger, leopard and pray species in India! I am sure you can find a reliable operator to take to & fro - Bangalore as the base.

They see a tiger or a leopard every day. Just depends on your luck if you are in the right vehicle.

The Bison resort is 5 star & for those what want that & happy to pay, I am sure it is great.

We were a group of 9 including kids and we were is a large 14 seater van. So we did the trip - 6 days - on a budget. We stayed here http://www.jungleinn.in/. You have the option of suites or larger family rooms / halls. The facilities are basic with ceiling fans & no airconditioning. The food is excellent south Indian food - home cooked style. We split the stay 3 days each in Jungle Inn & Sundaravana.

From the Jungle Inn lodge you drive for half an hour to the nationalpark office to get the van rides.

I personally feel the Kabini River Lodge option is worth the small extra cost for a couple or a small group. The van rides are longer and in a part of the park that gets fewer tourists.
