anatolian gazelle?
I've received an e.mail from a danish agent about this trophy. Seems that for the first time ever Turkey has released a small number of licenses for this animal. Very few infos on the web about it

Mario,

When I was in Turkey a guy I spoke to briefly said something about this and said he would send me some information.

If I receive anything I'll pass it along.

Yea the price I have is $8,200.00, so about $1,000 less than the 7.000 Euro (which equals about $9,350) but still not cheap for a gazelle. Even the guys who have this hunt say it's high priced, but the tags were apparently very expensive at the auction.

What is not explained in the offer is that this type of gazelle is not a different species from the Goitered that we found in much of Asia. The Gazella subgutturosa in fact has a very wide range.

I searched in the web the anatolian gazelle but no results. Is this a name invented?
Or just the goitered gazelle living in Turkey?

Mario,

From what I understood when I was speaking with our guy over there, the gazelle in Turkey is classified as a "Persian Goitered Gazelle", which is not the same one's they have in Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China. The only area's these gazelle are found are Iran, Turkmenistan and Eastern Turkey. Turkmenistan is closed to hunting and I don't believe they're on license in Iran (could be wrong here), so Turkey is the only place for people to get one.

The Persian goitered gazelle is also found in Kazakhstan and used to be in Kyrgyzstan as well. I found an old skull back in 2003 and what may have been fresh tracks in 2005 (they might have been escaped domestic goat but I doubt it) while hunting chukar. I returned to that area several times but never found more sign. I know for a fact that in a nearby area with heavier human population the last gazelle was shot in 1995 or so.

Do not confuse the goitered gazelle with the saiga antelope or the Mongolian gazelle. I do not know if gazelle are available for hunting in Kazakhstan or not, but last I heard there is a moratorium on saiga there.
