Hunted a North Shore marsh a few days ago during a serious Nor'Easter. The weather was *fierce* out there; downright dangerous, actually, with whiteout conditions. But the birds were flying like there was no tomorrow. We live for this stuff. If you haven't lived it, you probably wouldn't understand, but thought I'd share a few shots. Cheers, KG The bank we backed up to My buddy saying his prayers? Not a lot of calling done this day. Note the calls... Yours truly after watching 30 black ducks sit down in our faces ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Hiya David, They were buried under about 10" of snow at the time, I believe. The pics don't really do justice to how fierce the weather was. Here's some video, and it may give a better idea, but still and as you know, it's just not the same as being there. Talk soon, eh? KG ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

KG, Always enjoy your waterfowl posts, esp the video in this one; here in NorCal, we had a what we think of here as one hellacious storm, about 2 weeks ago; 40-60 mph winds, sustained, with gusts up to 80 - 100 mph, or more, all with a torrential downpour... we hunted in it, laying on a muddy check next to flooded rice, I shot 6 ducks and 2 snows, including a triple on gads....an awesome hunt.... I thought we were nuts, but our little weather event can't hold a candle to yours!!! kudos to you Regards, Craig Nolan Best Regards, Craig Nolan

Thanks, Craig, and it's reciprocal; enjoy your posts very much too. Our winds weren't nearly as strong as yours, but considerably cooler, I think. If our shooting was better, we'd have close to limiting out, but when you can't see (as well as having your gun freeze up), it's kind of hard to get a decent hit/miss ratio. Yeah I know, excuses, excuses... I wish I'd taken pics of some of the birds, but as soon as we took them off the dog and put them in the boat, they began getting buried with snow. It was a day to remember, that's for sure. Closing the season tomorrow back on the coast. KG ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Thanks for the responses and kind words, gents. We waterfowlers are generally, I believe, a breed apart. Maybe due to missing a chromosome, but nevertheless... Would love to see some of you other watermen post some pics. Anyone? Best, KG ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

KG Thanks for the pics. Personally, being very definitely a "fair weather" duck hunter, I had planned to use them in support of my petition to have you committed. However, I have reconsidered. You are handicapped in being a Bosox fan so I'll let it go this time. (Actually, I'm in envious awe of your endurance) Regards.

Gerry, thank you for reconsidering. I am (most times) perfectly sane. Generally speaking, of course; during duck season all bets are off. Since you have been so kind to me, I'll try to get word to the Patriots to take it easy on your team, say, stomp them by no more than 21 points come Sunday. We are friends after all. Big Guy: you bet! ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

That will separate the men from the boyz. Next weekend I leave for AR and will assist to the best of my ability: culling the million Snows, Blues and Ross Geese that believe the coast is clear. KG Appreciated your kind offer of " telling the Patriots to take it easy on your team, stomp them by no more than 21 points..." I realize that duck hunters sometimes don't have good days. (Pause, while I shed a tear or two for your great loss yesterday) Maybe the Patriots can blame the curse of Kamo Gari! How sweet it is down here! Got any predictions for the Bosox this season? (P.S. If you're thinking of becoming a sportswriter or an odds maker, I wouldn't quit my day job just yet) Regards anyway.

First, pardon me for a second, Gerry: mrrfff, crunch, lfferr, chomp. Gulp. Sonofa... Rrrrrr. OK, thanks. That was, of course, the sounds of me eating my words and taking my medicine like a man. I tip my hat to you Gerry, and to the team that played the better game. I was wr...Cough, cough. Um, as I was saying, I was wro..Gasp, hack. I was wr..ong. There, stick that in your pipe and smoke it, you NY heathen. Man, that was painful. By the bye, I was down in MANHTN today while the parade was being held. Despite a strong desire to do so, I chose not to run down any fans, deciding instead to drink myself silly and to enjoy throwing rotten vegetables into the crowd, thinking of you all the while. KG P.S. Oh, and WRT the invitation for you to join me hunting up here some day: know that it is still open. However, be warned--if you show up with a NYG jersey, there's going to be trouble. Fair warning, fellah! ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

KG: Thanks for the flashback. I lived in New England when I was in high school and college, and still miss skipping school to go hunting on days like the one you shared. Dave One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know. - Groucho Marx

KG I never wanted to hear that sound of you eating your words! We New Yorkers are much too generous and kind to ever want a Bostonian to do that. What I had in mind was for you to be dining on a bird - a black feathered bird, in fact. Gee! What's it called? The name will come to me, I'm sure! Many thanks for the duck hunting offer. Only infirmities of age (I'll be 78 in two months) prevent me from accepting with delight -although, I don't know what I would have worn anyway. You already have told me I will have to sit next to the dog as he shakes himself off if I wear a Yankees cap and now, you further threaten "trouble" if I wear a Giants jersey. Regards

A cormorant? You wanted me to eat a *cormie*? Evil, just plain evil that is. Gerry, never say never. You feel like it, I'll have you out happily, your age be damned. Particularly early season, you say so, I'll get you up here and into birds. All you'd need to do is want to; I'll take care of the rest. If you can pull on a set of waders*, sit on your arse and shoot a scattergun, it's do-able. Even if your black heart still yearns for your so-called baseball team to win next year's pennant, I'll be pleased to host. Just leave the garb with the damned devil symbols on the back (NYY, NYG and so forth). I have to draw the line somewhere... *Disclaimer: you soil my waders, intentionally or otherwise, you're back to getting on my bad side. KG P.S. Dave, you betcha'. Except I am a bit confused. Skipping school to get out on days like that? When the weather is like that, there *is* no school to have to skip! A win-win if there ever was one. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.
