I had always wanted a Common Gallinule in good plumage....and although we have them here in early season, the birds are so full of pin feathers and hence not good for taxidermy in my opinion. They move out and migrate down south right away in early fall.

Finally got a few late season birds in Georgia, perfect colors and zero pin feathers. Everyone kind of looks down upon swamp birds as sort of the bottom of the pile birds...but they sure make some interesting mounts.

Wholeheartedly agree that they're neat birds. But then I have a coot mounted... Wink

Is the bird pictured above considered a game species? Do folks eat them? Looks very similar to a coot.

@Kamo,
My coot mount is really old and I need a refresh with a big fluffy Coot from down South Big Grin And yes, as Brad said, very generous limits on these birds down south.

collector, if you need a southern Coot, come to TN. If you kill one, fifty will attend the funeral.
Cheers,
David

Coots have saved many awful duck hunts for me. they flock up like black birds, and if you give 'em some space to get up, they fly pretty well, almost like partridges over water.
