Hello: I am considering a puffin hunt in Iceland this April and wonder if anyone has gone on such a shoot and what is it like? Outfitter is Bjorn Birgisson - anything I need to know?? Thank you Oxon

Good luck on your hunt.....gorgeous country. Only puffin hunting I've seen is Andrew Zimmern catching them with a net as they flew by on the cliffs. Guess that's how the locals do it. They cooked 'em up right there on the grill......meat looked very dark red.

Hi Oxon, I have hunted Iceland for birds and it is a lot of fun. If you are hunting Auk species then you will probably connect with: - Puffins - Common Guillemot - Brunnich's Guillemot - Black Guillemot April is a bit too late for ducks as season will probably be closed so be mindful of that. There is no limit on number of birds so you can shoot as much as your shoulder can take. Icelandic people are one of the friendliest towards Americans (right up there with New Zealanders). Most young people speak fluent English with barely an accent. You can fly in with your shotgun and if the outfitter is reputable then it should be a piece of cake. Take some time to enjoy the thermal spas in Reykjavic. When I was there I had to wipe the drool off of my chin....couple of times....the Icelandic beauties are just jaw dropping....you have been warned P.S. None of the Auk species are importable to USA...no matter what anyone says...stay out of trouble...hunt them there, take pics, eat a few and that is about it. Do not try to bring any back for taxidermy purpose into the States...you will get in a lot of trouble. Also, if any taxidermist is willing to mount any of the Auk species for you...he is going to be in so many violations of USF&W that it is not even funny.

There is an island off the coast of ME that has a strong puffin population. Get caught shooting one, however, and you're done for. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

That's why you use a net like Andrew Zimmern! -+-+- "If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun." - The Dalai Lama

You mean like how his *hosts* used nets effectively. Love the show, but that fat bastard clearly did not excel in phys ed class as a kid. He didn't bag a single one, but managed to do a pretty fair job winding himself as he flailed away with the pole like a chubby school lass on that cliff. Nothing but air he brought to the table. Me, I'd rather launch a load of #4s at those pretty-beaked little gummers. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.
