For those of you who want to experience some Great White North hunting, I have the following available for 2011: Goose hunting is a different and unique experience in Iceland. There are 5 different species of geese in Iceland: Greylag goose, Pink foot goose, White front goose, Barnacle goose (scarce) and Brent goose. 3 of them can be hunted. The White front and Brent goose are protected. Hunting Season: Hunting season is from August 20th until March 15th. In reality the season ends when the geese migrate to the UK late October. Ducks are mainly incidental trophies. The duck season runs from Sept 1st - March 15th: Mallard, Green-wing Teal, Eurasian Widgeon, Old Squaw, Tufted Duck, Greater Scaup and Red Breasted Merganser. Keep in mind these are migratory so they won't be available during the entire season. 4 different types of hunts: These depend on hunting areas, dates and goose species. 1) August 20th – Sept 10th we hunt Pink foot and Greylag geese over ponds at dusk. Morning hunts may be possible. 2) September 10th – 20th we hunt Greylag geese over fields in the morning. 3) September 20th – October 20th we hunt Greylag and Pink foot geese over fields in the morning. 4) September 25th – October 10thth we can hunt all 3 available goose species. Morning hunts. Above dates can intercept each other. On hunts 2 and 3, we will also provide 1 evening hunt for ducks. On hunt 4 there will be 3 morning hunts and 2 evening hunts. There are no daily bag limits on geese and ducks in Iceland. The Hunt: A day’s bag for 2 hunters can be anywhere between 5-50 geese. The success of the hunt depends on the shooting ability of each hunter, but weather, temperature and other factors of nature will certainly also influence the result. When needed we use dogs to retrieve the downed geese. During goose hunting you will also be able to shoot most species of ducks that might pass your barrel. We hunt only on private fields. In some places we can arrange an afternoon sea bird hunt after September 1st. We hunt from pit blinds, bale blinds and natural blinds. Guides: We offer the best professional Icelandic goose hunting guides available. Our guides have been hunting and guiding Duck, Goose and Ptarmigan hunts for over 20 years. Food and Accommodation: Accommodation during the hunt is in first class lodges with full modern amenities, hot water, showers, etc. We provide at least 3 good meals per day and all drinks except alcoholic. We try to meet any special wishes that our clients may have for food. What to bring: 3-Shot Semi-auto, Pump or O/U Shotguns in 12 gauge. Warm, waterproof waterfowl camouflage clothing, warm underwear and knee high rubber boots. Temperatures can vary from 30° - 60° F, but generally the temperature is 40° to 50° F, except in the early morning, when it can be colder. Upon booking we supply a detailed packing list. Included: Hunting license, weapon license, all transportation in Iceland, one professional guide and a 4x4 vehicle/boat for every 2-4 hunters, all equipment necessary during the hunt (except clothing and firearms) and full board and lodging from arrival until departure. Not included: Fees for extra hunting or fishing, preparation and shipment of birds according to customer wishes, ammunition (price per box of 25 shells 1-1/2 oz $28 per: sorry guys, shells are expensive here), alcoholic beverages, extra days in Reykjavik, International flights and excess baggage charges on domestic flights.
