I had this nice limit by 9:30 this morning. Would have been quicker if I put out the deeks. Couldn't get anyone else to go hunting so I opted to shoot fly by's. The bird closest to me was huge for a crane,,,cranezilla.

Nice. A definite must-do for me at some point. Say, what does one look for in trying to pick out a mature full plumed bird, please?

It's hard to tell a mature bird in the air,,,or is for me. A big bird will have copper colored spots throughout the grey feathers. That and they are much larger than the juveniles.

They are cool birds to hunt. We do not have a season yet but hopefully soon. We winter around 75,000 in the southeast (Hiwassee Island refuge near Chattanooga) but I'm seeing them here in middle TN almost every winter. Twice so far this year.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

How are sandhills to eat? I've heard they're very good, but we're not allowed to hunt them here in California, so I've never tried one.
