my son & I got away from our flood cleanup for a bit last week. we had booked a hunt with mike robinson of thunder creek outfitters is sask, near kyle and central butte. the area around kyle held few ducks but estimates of specks in the area was a half million, with more snows and a ton of cranes. we filled our 3 day limits on specks quickly, but the snows are really spooky, i guess getting banged at for 9 months of the year i'd be edgy too. weather was beautiful for anything but bird hunting. 65 degrees and nice and sunny. birds were high except for the first hour or so. we did manage a few snows, but the cranes were just to far away. so we switched areas and moved to central butte. here the mallards and pintails were all over. Honkers were just coming into the area and the snows were spooky. we had to bypass the specks since we were already full. Duck shooting was a dream. flocks of hundred were trying to land in the decoys. we could have taken our possession limit of 24 each in one 3 hour shoot. we managed an upland hunt or two for sharptail and huns during the afternoon with some success on sharptails especially. mike robinson runs a very nice camp, much better than any other goose/duck camp i've ever been to. he is a small outfit, doing most of the work himself, save some spotting, cooking and cleaning. he wants to stay small and only will take a max of 6 hunters at a time, preferring 4. his price if 1450 for 3 days or 1950 for 5, which is certainly more than reasonable. We also fished with him in aniak ak. last summer, and will again this coming summer. 3000 for 5 days, and you stay in his house, not in a tent camp. So if any of you guys are looking for a place, I can highly recommend mike.

Sounds like a great trip butch, any pics? Glad to hear you got away from the flood for a bit. It's raining hard here tonight with scattered storms for the next two days. I'm as nervous as a snow goose in Arkansas Eeker

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

That's a bargain for apparently a well-run operation. In '08 & '09 we paid $2500 for 5 days for the Quill Lakes area of Sask. We skipped this year & are looking for a new outfitter, perhaps in Alberta or back to Sask w/ a new outfitter.

We went primarily after the Big Canadians & Sandhill Cranes, no ducks unless they came into our goose spreads.

Any pics? I'd love to see them...
