New to us, but after about a decade of casually looking, finally found a case deemed worthy of the humble collection of some of my treasured possessions I've collected over the years. Case is 12' across, almost 7' high, and 2.5' deep. Built in the 30s by a commercial lab furniture company out of WI. Just getting it set up now. Soon, drake wigeon, sprig and GWT will join. Two of the three are done.

Hope to work on habitat and mods with wife as we go through the years, but we're very pleased that we found a piece we thought fits in with our tastes, and does some measure of justice to the beloved birds I chase. I enjoy taking pics, so will be experimenting with blown up shots as background, maybe.

Suggestions welcome, but thought I'd share. Love to see some other folks' bird collections. Collector, love you man, but you need not apply. It's like you wrote a book on the subject. Wait, you actually did, didn't you...? Wink

Thanks, Collector. The rod/shaft you see is actually an old weathervane. In the right case there are things my wife and I have acquired over the years from around the world. Old cameras, clocks, carvings from Asia and Africa, some artifacts from Europe and early-mid 19th century stuff from here. Bullet moulds and measures found in attics, an old cop club from 1892 I found in my childhood home in Boston, there's an old homemade shotgun barrel (burst) and trigger assembly that was found on a MA beach after a major storm by a buddy and given to me. There's a piece of pottery from South America, an easel, a tanned alligator hide I took from the former owner in a South FL swamp, a bear skull I killed in AK, some picked up shed antlers, some other critter skulls, baskets and other woven stuff picked up in the Golden Triangle and other far off lands, a couple of fossils and a native american spearhead (I think) that I found in QC years ago. Just random treasures--to us.

Hell, there's an unopened bottle of Napolean Camus from 1969 in there, and a bottle of Royal Salute from around the same time period. Saving as a reward to myself after some futuresuccessful hunt, or event... Wink

We just got started, and there's a lot more to go in, but the wife has taken over. I had just enough time to get to move the goddamned huge thing into the house, and move my birds in, before she shoved me out of the way and told me to stay clear. Eeker rotflmo wave

Anyway, thanks for the comments, gents. Norty, most kind, but I think I'll pass on your seconds. Unless you don't mind me using them as lifelike skeet for practice, tossed off a roof... Wink

Beautiful! Not sure I understand the chairs on top of the display though...

Temporary. Finite space we have in our loft, and to get that big piece in, other pieces needed to move. Still figuring out what's staying, going and being shifted. With 15' ceilings, stacking is a viable option, and one of the only easy ways to temporarily store random things like chairs, that would otherwise be in the way...

Very nice KG, congrats on your find. If you want to send me sharp images of your spear point, I should be able to help you. I've been collecting pre-historical stone artifacts over 50 years and am an advanced collector.
Cheers,
David

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Yep, thanks. No kids here very often, unfortunately. I'm more concerned about my drunken hunting buddies anyway, though, bunch of clumsy arses many of them are. But then as the unofficial leader of the merry mob, hey, you only live once... Wink

I like it a lot. It is rather like those you see in older museum buildings. Looks like it would be fun to look at all the items and think about their history.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Thanks for the comments, folks. LDK, I'll send a pic or two over. I appreciate it. Palmer, that's the idea, and we're doing it already ('oh wow, is that the piece of X you picked up on that lonely beach in Japan?' type stuff".

I need to get my other finished birds in there.
