Going to a gun show tomorrow, looking for a Super Black Eagle Two. Hope to find a left handed one. Appears to be the hot duck gun.

Here are some thoughts.....

3" vs 3.5"
If Ducks only then 3" guns are fine...Benelli makes a super combination of art/engineering called CORDOBA. So a 12 gauge Cordoba would be my choice.

http://www.benelliusa.com/shot.../benelli_cordoba.php

You can easily do Geese over decoys with the 3" shells so this gun will cover it. However, if you want to do Pass Shooting with Geese then maybe the SBE II will be a better fit, given the 3.5" capacity.

RECOIL
An inertia operated gun (like any of the Benellis) will kick a bit more than a gas operated gun (like the Beretta Extrema 2)
http://www.berettausa.com/products/a391-xtrema2/

So if you are not recoil sensitive then go with the Benelli SBE II, if you want something lighter shooting then go with the Beretta Extrema 2.

CLEANING
Now if you hunt salt water then you should seriously think about ease of cleaning your gun. Benellis can be taken apart easily and cleaned within minutes as compared to Berettas...the complicated gas operated systems on Berettas are somewhat (read...bitch) to clean when compared to Benelli.

So there are pluses and minuses to both great waterfowling guns (Beretta / Benelli) both have advantages and disadvantages.

SBE III will be coming out....should not be too long now !!!

Wooohooooo! jumping

I'm gonna need a bigger gun safe. Big Grin

Edit: Another member reminded me of the Ruger stainless o/u 12g I bought last year.....fantastic gun for upland AND duck, especially if you hunt salt....and aren't set on a semi.....I highly recommend it.

A quality over under! In my opinion of course...LOL

I personally use a 3.5" browning citori myself, but have seen a LOT of different guns used in the 20 years I have waterfowl hunted. There are a few that have shown me their reliability over that time with a LOT of shots fired under a LOT of different conditions.

The benelli SBE origional, winchester SX2, browning A5, remington 870 wingmasters, and browning citoris are the best I have personally seen. These have all show great reliability during THOUSANDS and thousands of shots.

I am sure some of the newer guns will prove to be just as reliable, but only time will tell.

Of course if ya just want a "new" gun I completly understand as I have been there several times myself.

thanks

I just saw the new 12 gauge Benelli Vinci. The recoil is minor even when shooting 3 1/2 inch shells. It felt a little odd in my hands. The angles were noticeable. It is super easy to disassemble.

My gun guys knew nothing of a SBE III. if and when one comes out, it will be interesting to see the difference between it and the Vinci.

M1 benelly
390/391 beretta
sbe II
Extrema 2

I own them all and they are all great guns........ the vinci is possibly the ugliest gun known to man.......

I looked at both the new Beretta's and Benelli's recently at the NWTF convention. The new recoil system in the butt plate is very interesting. I'm a fan of both.

Does the Vinci take 3 1/2"? 2 of my buds have one and they take 3" only.....and that was my understanding unless they've changed it.

What do you guys think of the Franchi I12? I had convinced myself to get a SBE-II, then swayed toward the new 3 1/2" Super Vinci, but I just stumbled across a Franchi for a price I couldn't pass up.

I love the inertial action (have had a Beretta 1201FP for years), and I doubt I'll miss the 3 1/2" chamber...I've never had one yet. I put 120 rounds through the Franchi this afternoon; heavy loads, light 2 3/4" stuff, a few slugs and turkey loads, you name it. Works with everything. I think I'm in love. Any comments or recommendations? Thanks.

What's a new duck gun? I'm still shooting the same old Beretta A-302 that I bought 28 years ago. 2 3/4", 26" Improved Cylinder barrel (before choke tubes came out), wood stock that looks more like a boat paddle, bluing is somewhat worn off, vent rib is dented and with many thousands of rounds through it and barely a malfunction, I can't figure out why I'd need a new duck gun. It just keeps on working, and the ducks keep on splashing. Heck, I even cleaned it twice this season instead of the usual once! Wink

On my budget it would likely be a Remington 1100. Disability has its benefits. Income isn't one of them.

Just bought the new Beretta Explorer A400 - really nice gun. Worth looking at - I liked it better than the Vinci.

My two cents.
