Just returned from Athol, South Dakota where a group of six of us hunted with Northern Plains Outfitters. I booked this hunt through Worldwide Trophy Adventures (Casey Mecklenburg) last year.

We hunted three days and got out six man limit each day. We killed wild birds and released birds. The land/scenery was beautiful. The dogs were great and the guides were all we could ask for. We are very experience bird hunters who mostly hunt doves and quail in SC. So, the shooting was not exactly a challenge - but it was still fun as hell.

Accommodations were excellent and the food was good. We booked as "all inclusive" and they took good care of us. Plenty of scotch and beers after the hunt. Food was hearty and good.

I would strongly recommend hunting with Northern Plains Outfitters. The owner, Shannon Yeske, was really nice, helpful and accommodating. Really good folks. The other guides were also great.

Travel was easy. We flew into Aberdeen SD and were picked up for a 45 min drive to camp. All hunting was within a 5 min drive from the lodge.

If I did it again, I would book combo duck/geese and pheasant to hunt the waterfowl (on dry land) in the AM and pheasant in the PM. The amount of ducks we saw while pheasant hunting was truly impressive.

We were a group of six guys who grew up/went to college together - and frankly we are a bit rowdy. They were patient with us, which I appreciated. One of the guides said to us: "we don't have many groups who shoot as well you and drink as much!"

I am glad we used WTA as booking agent. Casey was great and they made it easier for me to collect the deposit, then the balance from a group of six. WTA handles my tag apps in the US and they are a great resource. I knew I was in good hands. Peace of mind.

All in all, top notch outfitter and excellent hunt. Highly recommend. I will be back probably late fall next year for ducks/pheasant.

Sounds great! We had a similarly excellent time at Big Bend Ranch in SD last year although the fowl hadn't arrived yet so it was just upland.
