"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Totally awesome. Juan, I'm going to have to get down there one of these days for sure. Wink

What are the seasons for full-plumed birds for a waterfowl man?

How about a report, Charlie? Pass shooting those green beauties? Lead 8s? Any good to eat?

I'm not big on writing reports, plus my son, ADAM, not Aaron, is at a freshman UT Austin function until Wed, so pics are out of the question. Of course, I got home to have pics scattered over 3 or 4 forums anyway. Eeker

At any rate, the green parrots are fairly easy targets BUT they have large wings and can cut and dive on you in a NY second. I rank the 3 birds we were on as parrots easiest, then pigeons, then doves. We were a little unlucky on the weather, it was damn cold and even more damned windy, lows in 30s/low 40s in morning, and highs in mid to high 50s in afternoon. Pretty chilly when we left a balmy 105 in Texas. The wind was an unceasing 15 to 20 with gusts at 30 or above. Our fearless guides and most of the Argentines we saw were wrapped up like they expected the next ice age to arrive any moment. Big Grin The weather significantly cut down on numbers of birds but Adam and I shot all we wanted, about 5 cases of shells in 3 days. This is a REALLY low total for Argentina but neither of us had shot for a while and, I spent a lot of time watching my son shoot and he shot quite well for a beginner if I do say so myself. Even with the conditions, had we been serious shooters, it would have been easy to shoot twice as many shells or more if you didn't mind missing a helluva lot of downwind doves.

Under normal conditions or against the wind parrots are easy. Downwind they get quite difficult. Triples are difficult because of the duck and dive factor. It's fairly easy to kill 2 with one shot if you wait for the shot. With the heavy winds and cold, there were many "patterns" of targets available and the shooting was challenging overall to say the least. Unlike what is posted by Juan, I shot very poorly IMO but it was fun.

There are many multiples more parrots now then when I was last there 10 years ago or so. It's hard not to feel sympathy for them, they come back to fallen birds, will land around dead ones, etc. OTOH, they are a "plaga" and fun to shoot. Wink

We didn't eat any, they are pretty small, like a dove, but they basically eat fruit, grain, and nuts so should be tasty.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

Excellent. Thanks kindly. They will land around fellow dead birds? Sounds like a seaduck. I'm sold. Whistling I know some flyfishing guys who'd probably be thrilled with a pile of green feathers (though they/parts of may not be importable, I realize. Are they?)... Wink

Please, one last question I must ask. The cripples and not quite dead ones don't...um...say anything, do they?

Quite verbal, but given that I was having enough trouble with my long out of practice Spanish, I didn't have the time to learn Parrot. Wink

BTW pigeons love to decoy and do it readily to dead pigeons. They are great to shoot. There are two types where we were hunting.....scientifically named, big ones and little ones. Smiler

My favorite bird to shoot during my Argentina trip was the Patagonia pigeon. However, as bad as I hate to admit it...shooting the parrots was fun also.

I wanted to make a trip this year, but my father was unable to go during the time I had available because of passport difficulty. Maybe next year.

Dear shotgunners ,in this safari we experimented rainny ,windy and cold conditions -we even have a small fire on each blind-they shot a media of 1500shells in 3 days -one day decoyed pidgeons -
GATOGORDO is a great shot ,he used a remintong 10100 skeet and a remintong 870 with extra full choke -and i saw the most incredible shots with it-and Adam a browning silver camo ,Adam must compete in sporting clays he has an incredible cordination and is a great shot .

Those are reviews Wink, thank you very much, and they are relatively short. That said, I had written about half the Arg hunt report and the computer burped and it evaporated. I REALLY hate writing the same report twice. Mad
