Congrats on getting your first bands. It's always a surprise to get one. When Tennessee opened regular seasons on the local "giant" Canada's, it was normal to take multiple bands each season. Not so much now as local birds get a clue quick and begin to avoid hunting areas/blinds. Where I hunt in Nebraska however, they take quite a few bands in the early season.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

This reminds me of a duck hunt with my late father back in 1976. He had just joined a new duck club (new for us) in California’s Butte Sink. We were enjoying a good morning when my dad called in a flock of 6 mallards. We killed five of them and imagine how excited I was when the first bird I picked up was banded! And so was the 2nd bird! And the 3rd, 4th & 5th!!! All five were banded, so we figured the 6th bird, the one that got away, must surely have been banded too.

When we got the band data back from USFW, we found out all the birds had been banded 4 days earlier on the Gray Lodge Refuge, which was just a couple miles away. They didn’t learn anything from those 5 bands.
