Looks like the weather is doing more bad things than good. I'm hunting Rio's this weekend if the tornado's leave any birds on the ground. Don't be surprised if some of you east coast guys see some Rio Grande Turkey sailing past your window. Not looking good after last nights storms. The Toms are still calling on our place as of yesterday. Turkeys are a funny bunch of birds. Who knows, the tornados may actually help the situation. The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it. | |||

The hunt went off well. We arrived in Amarillo to be greeted by snow, slush then wind driven rain. It was raining horizontal. Opening morning was clear and cold. I could see my breath. Killed my first Rio at 21 yards in full strut. Bird weighed over 18 lbs with a 10.5" beard. Young 2 year old Tom. Took my limit of four birds over our stay with my best bird having 1.25 inch spurs. Man were they sharp! Took him at 43 yards. Benelli SBE with factory full choke. Ammo: Winchester supreme 3.5" w/#5 shot. Longest shot was 54 yards and I hammered a 2 year old. This deal could get habit forming. You guys in TX have a great State!
