Looks like the USF&W service did a double take on the Brant closure for this coming season. Evidently they counted far more Brant that expected, therefore, there will be a Brant season for the 2016-2017 season. Dates/limits will vary from State to State but at least 1 or 2 will be the daily bag limit. Sea ducks will get a 60 day season this year instead of the traditional long season with limits reduced to 5 birds daily with no more than 4 of any species. I will be offering hunts in various locations in Massachusetts and Chesapeake Bay this year but I'd book early if you want to pick your dates. Repeat hunters keep things booked up fairly tight. I hope to have enough guides this year to provide everyone with some good hunting. Norton, one of the guides I know and hunt with out of Boston takes all the surplus sea ducks to a Summer sausage maker. He turns them into a sausage that is excellent. Those who don't order some are missing out. Never tried to eat any of the sea ducks myself, just bring trophy birds home to be mounted. Brant however, is excellent. One of the best coastal birds. Brant, a type of goose. Those that eat sea ducks usually make smoked sausage out of them. I hear it is excellent. Bill, I would imagine like most waterfowl, their diet would affect their taste. I remember when Snow geese were considered unfit for the table.
