Just finished up my Baja California hunting season. My gun permits were valid for 3 months. Hunted valley quail one day and black brant in San Quintin Bay the next. Easy limits were harvested in the morning. The black brant hunt is a novel experience. These birds fly non stop from Izembek Lagoon in Alaska to pristine San Quintin Bay where they feed on eel grass. The birds decoy easily due to minimal hunting pressure and the hunt can be called more of a shoot than anything./ Very novel experience that I do once a year. Each permit (Sentilla) is allows harvest of 5 birds. These birds are highly studied and monitored so its common to bring in a banded or double banded bird. Once I harvested one with 3 bands. By the way, contrary to popular belief these birds are very tasty.

Atlantic Brant are considered by many to be the best tasting of east coast waterfowl LB. I've never tried one as I have them mounted. Hopefully, I'll give one a try next year. I've seen quite a bit of hunting video from Mexico's west coast on the Brant and many were banded.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

We had one bird with a double band this year. Several years ago I shot one with triple bands. Our boat guide "Tiburon" had his wife cook breakfast which included pan fried brant breasts. They were delicious with her special seasoning.
