We are offering a 7 day upland (dove, pigeon, guinea, sand grouse, francolin etc) and waterfowl hunt in South Africa next year. This is a great opportunity to sample some of RSA's fantastic bird hunting. You may add additional hunting days for plains game as well at the daily rate of $350 p/day and trophy fee. This bird package is all inclusive: ground transportation, all meals, lodging, daily laundry, guide/PH and staff. Does not include airfare to Jo'burg, RSA., personal items, shotgun shells (available in camp), tips, taxidermy or shipping of trophies. We do not have many openings left. Justin, shells are available in RSA and cost around $10 per box. All brands I've tried (usually English) have been good. However, my Outfitter is looking into buying quantity cases, so maybe they will cost less. You can import double barrel or over/under shotguns with no problem. Pump shotguns might be allowed next year but that depends on next years regs. We're looking into it. The number of boxes will depend upon each persons shooting style and what he/she would be hunting each day, but we plan to have ample supply. Allen: May-August are the prime hunting dates. Availability will have to be sorted out between big game hunts. I will begin to list open dates soon. David, I asked before, but forgot what the answer was (sorry!)_. What's the story with bringing back birds? I know someone who has some done over there, and they are pathetic looking indeed. Kamo and L.D. forgive the intrusion, but it is the luck of the draw in my experience. The draw taking place when the skins get shipped to the US and the customs/USFWS/Dept of AG rep get involved. Ya just never know, and unless you are there when the things are being cleared they may or may not get through inspection, no matter that they can be legally imported. KG & nkonka; I would never have birds mounted in RSA or any African country. That is asking for problems. Mounted birds as you know are very fragile. And there lies the problem: damage during shipment. I am having all of my waterfowl prepped (skinned/salted) and shipped home with my other trophies. By using a Customs Broker, I avoid hassles. They will have their export documents and there should be no trouble. I will most likely mount my birds. Others will have their's shipped to the Taxidermist of their choice. I plan on having all birds tagged, documented and shipped together. Once here (my town) I will forward them to each hunters Taxidermist. I don't like to take chances on trophies. Murphy's Law is a given but I do all I can to prevent screw ups. How's your waterfowl season looking? You can count me in Juan. I'm planning on coming next June with some friends. We're just now sorting out the dates. I recently visited a Taxidermist friend who only mounts birds and he had several Ducks from Argentina. I must have some for my collection! Today, I watched Gerald McRaney take a super Pere David Deer while hunting in Cordoba (spelling?). Your country has some beautiful landscapes and wildlife. I want to hunt big game in the near future. Juan, True, but the money raised from taking the older bucks will keep the project funded, thus the chances of that specie of Deer expanding is very good. Someday they may be huntable as free ranging again. This appears to be the limits on game birds for South Africa for 2008. Don't hold me to this please, the Gov't can change its mind at anytime but I don't see any problems. Dove - No Limit Pigeon- 50 per gun per day Guinea - 5 per gun per day Francolin- 5 per gun per day Sand Grouse- 5 per gun per day Ducks - various species all 5 per gun per day Geese - 5 per gun per day - 2 main species (Spur Wing and Egyptian). Keep in mind that many of the areas we hunt may offer most if not all of these birds on the same day, so the hunting can be substantial. Plus, for the trophy bird hunter, your chances should be great in collecting many of the different species in one trip. Big game hunting may be added after the 5 day bird hunts. I have saved June and July dates as this is when most of the birds are in prime plumage. Contact me right away if you want to join us. We are revising this hunt to be a 5 day hunt instead of a 7 day hunt. Some are wanting to extend over for plains game hunting.
