Argentina Duck and Dove Hunt

I just returned from a duck and dove hunt in Argentina. This was my third hunt with these people.

We shot ducks for 5 days with Argentina Outftters out of a place called Estancia Ameghino. It was amazing. I personally shot 451 ducks, 11 different species in 5 days. Two of the shoots got cut short because of travel issues.

We shot doves for 4 days at a place about an hour outside of Cordoba called Los Chanares. One can shoot as many doves as your arm can take.

Both hunts were arranged perfectly and were problem free except for weather issues and my sons both getting sick. It snowed while we were there. There was also severe fog which caused a several hour delay in our air charters.

I would highly recomend both hunt. They were booked through John Barth at Adventure Unlimited.

Larry,
Were you able to bring back any birds for mounting? Sounds like you had a great shoot. David

I could have but didn't. Personally, I want a silver teal, cinammon teal, ring teal and whitecheeked pintail.

Unfortunately, both my sons got sick and I was too busy dealing with them to worry about the birds.

The Duck hunting in Argentina is indeed spectacular in places. We were unfortunate with our hunt last year in that the Guide didn't deliver what we had booked, but he did take us to one place where the duck hunting was very good. I shot just under 100 ducks in three flights but only because I broke out from the group and made sure I did it my way. Still though two of the flights were interrupted because we had to leave early.

I'm really keen to go back to Argentina and do this again, properly. In fact I'm Fishing in Patagonia in Jan/Feb '09 and supposed to be in Chilie for the week before chasing the Trout, but I'm thinking of trying to get a couple of days shooting in the south while I'm there. We'll see what happens, but it sure is an exceptional country.

This was my third year shooting with Argentina Outfitters. The hunt has been fantastic in all three years. We have had the odd shoot (out of 10 shoots each trip) where the shooting was so so. For example , in our very last shoot this year, by brother and I killed 27 each. That is a low number by their standards. We saw lots of ducks that just wouldn't come in. If you want to go back, I would give them a try.

Thanks Larry,

I'll keep that in mind. We ware probably wingshooting in RSA next year although I'm not sure if the guys can put un the bags that we are looking for with Guinneas and Francolin. It's always nice to have a back up plan.

FB, no waterfowl in the RSA hunt? They have some awesome duck and goose shooting. Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but a few of their birds are beautiful.

Ducks and geese will feature too by the looks of things.

The PH has large numbers of guinneas and Francolin on the ground, which we're keen on, and apparently acces to Goose flighting. I'm not sure about the duck flighting.

I'm hoping it works out as at the moment it is all up in the air a bit. we are looking for 20-30 head each per day so he's coming back to me on the detail later next week.

Didn't the government close goose hunting to protect some species that looks a lot like a common species?
