I have gunned cranes in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan. We have had a season here in Alberta now the last couple of years but I have never had an opportunity to even see one during bird season in my regular haunts.

I went to Saskatchewan for a couple of days this past week to specifically target cranes. I caught the migration and hunted one evening. I couldn't stay any longer.

Three of us limited out (5 birds each) in just about 30 minutes. Maybe a bit less.

If you ever get a chance to hunt this wonderful game bird - go for it. Outstanding!

They’re good fun over decoys and damn good grilled for dinner.
