I am desperately in need of some new waders. I recently discovered Mack's Prairie Wings website. I have always wanted boot foot waders but due to my size 16-17 feet this has not previously been an option.

Let me get to the point....I found two different boot foot chest waders that will work for me but am unsure as to which one is most likely sufficient for my purposes. One has 3.5mm neoprene and 1000gram Thinsulate the other is 5mm neoprene and 1200 gram thinsulate.

My questions are will the heavier material inhibit my ability to move and will it be too much insulation? Also how much cold will the 3.5mm withstand?

I hate having cold toes/feet. When my feet get cold my brain goes dead and I have no interest in hunting anylonger. Hunting locations for me will most likely be Texas, Arkansas, and maybe Argentina.

Andy; while the 5mm is tougher (to a degree) nothing in neoprene stops a puncture. If you do much walking, the 1000 grms of thinsulate is fine. If sitting in a blind all day and you ride a boat to the hide, get the 1200 gm model. Mack's, like all other wader companys, now have their boots made in China. However, Mack's went to the sealed hem as opposed to the taped hem and this should prevent leaks a lot better. I've been in their store (Stuttgart, AR) many times, and it is truly a waterfowlers paradise. Your feet will condense moisture on cold days no matter what you wear, but if you do much walking, they will really sweat. Best to put your waders and good socks on in the blind if you have a choice. Your feet stay dryer longer, and warmer. LDK

Thanks LDK! Is it too early to book for Light Goose Conservation season for 2013? Or even regular goose season in Arkansas?

Not at all. There are a lot of specks in AR anymore, so add those decoy ready birds to the snows, blues and ross geese and you've got some good hunting. Included during the regular waterfowl season are canada's and ducks which you can't take any dark geese or ducks in the conservation light goose season. Weather plays a role so we do not want deposits to book your hunt dates. We keep you posted ahead of time and if it's not looking good (too hot, too much water, birds left etc) we tell you to stay home and save your off days and $$$. Contact me anytime to book dates.
