Just got back from my annuals pheasant hunt in SD. Rained 3 of the 10 days so I was glad to have the longer trip this year. Birds were plentiful so the dogs got some good work outs. Cover varied from CRP grass to swampy cattails. Two of us the first 5 days and three guys the next 5 days. Corn was still standing due to the wet weather so birds were in it much of the day. Had to hunt in Bog boots daily since there was so much water in the fields and ditches.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

That's a German Wire Haired Pointer I think, looks just like mine. Mine is actually a Deutch Drathaar because she's registered with the German club.

Nice birds, bet they'll taste great. The old man and I fight over the battered, deep-fried hearts. It's easy to become blase' about the whole thing when there's two uncles and a cousin with farms in eastern So.Dak. Congratulations. We went on a friends farm in Iowa this year too and he had alot of birds.

Bacon sauteed pheasant strips, Pesto sauce on fettucini with fresh grated romano cheese is a favorite dish. I ate Pheasant fajitas tonight with sauteed peppers & onion washed down with an ice cold brewski. Hard to beat a nice meal of pheasant!
The Wirehair (Ritz) is 11 months now. He a very nice pup I bought in Nampa. Hunts hard and is very easy to control with a toot of the whistle. He learned what pheasants were on this trip!
My Lab(Tag) is a machine. He also points if the birds are holding in cover. I really enjoy the dogs.
