Having used with great success, CEB's 240 grain .45's this past December during Kentucky's late season muzzle loading hunt, they have decided to move forward with dedicated muzzle loading bullets. I found their Raptor bullets to be devastating on Whitetail Deer, and would have no hesitation using them on large game such as Elk, but looking forward to trying out their new line ASAP. I'll no doubt have them with me this come season when our AR group returns to KY.

Are you shooting these in sabots? If so, they are going to be illegal in many of the western states, as I understand it... On the other hand, if the copper is soft enough, it might engrave. But I am thinking it probably won't, as pressures just aren't high enough in muzzleloaders to make that happen...

Most states with elk hunts won't allow 45's for elk anyway. In my opinion a 240 gr bullet is not an elk bullet with a ML. Ron

Having shot these bullets and having personally seen the terminals, I would not hesitate to shoot an elk with theses bullets.

These are non conventual hollow point, they act much bigger and penetrate deeper then any muzzleloading bullet on the market.

These are shot with a sabot and obviously to be used in a 50 cal.

CEB has a dedicated muzzleloading bullet which should be released in the coming months and will be designed for the higher velocities these rifles can produce, similar to the existing 240 .452 with a few changes to the bands and slight alteration in the cavity. Will be testing a few in the near future.

Having taken a number of Elk with a .280, I, like Seasons44, would have no hesitation hunting Elk with the CEB Raptors. And as of yesterday, I received the new CEB muzzle loading bullets for field testing accuracy. Will be hunting with them next Fall. IMHO, the .45 acp's I used last December where overkill on large Whitetails. Here is the result of what just one petal did to the 11pt bucks shoulder:

Entry hole:

I will be testing the 160 & 250 grain Raptors.
Doubless; yes, I use Harvester sabots. I'm familiar with many of the rules in western States; some allow Power Belt bullets, some allow them only in lead (no jacket or copper) etc. I see both sides of the coin concerning muzzle loaders: vintage vs modern. I respect each States rules. Smiler LDK

Ron - CEB Raptors "ARE" elk bullets pretty much whatever caliber or what type of gun they are shot out of. Check out their web site, talk to a few folks that have actually used them and you might just change your mind? I am using a 255 grain CEB Safari Raptor and a 280 grain CEB Solid out of a 9.3 x 74R double for Cape Buffalo this September with no reservations at all. Have seen what these bullets are capable of.
