I know that this must have been hashed out here before, but I'll ask again.

Does anyone have any personal experience with the Pedersoli Kodiak double rifle muzzleloaders? I think about getting one in 58 from time to time. Though I've heard some horror stories on getting them to regulate. What experiences have you guys had/heard?

Thanks!

I have read on this forum that they are not made that well and have problems with the locks not being made well. Springs breaking barrel tang not being beaded enough to take the recoil. I have no personal experience with one other than looking at a used one at the gun show. It was extremely heavy so I gave up on the idea. I would suggest that if you can find a used/new one try to lift it and see if the weight will be an issue for you.

Good luck on your search for information.

I have had two double muzzleloadering rifles about 15 years.I have a .50 Kodiak and a .50 CVA Express Rifle.I had to install double adjustible sites on both of them.I had the problem of both barrekls not going off or hang fires.I also hated getting my left arm splattered by caps going off.I finally installed accushot primer adapters on both of them. They now are as fast as any inline going off.The Kodiak was alot more regulated than the CVA was.I had tons of trouble with the CVA.The barrel would not stay on way one problem. The Kodiak is very well build alot better than the CVA.The Kodiak hit both barrels together out to about 75 yards.I cant shoot open sites much farther than that.It wont shoot any sabot bullets heavier than 240 gr .I thried 300 gr they turned sideways and keyholed. The CVA rifle had a vertical problem.I got the barrels to hit about 6 " of each other. The Kodiak made about 2" groups of each other .I bought the Kodiak used for the Kodiak $200 and aBOUT $250 FOR THE cva NEW.They are both good guns but the Kodiak is Built better and shoots better.

dgr416, do you remember off the top of your head what the regulating load was for the .58 cal Kodiak? I'm going to a town near by next week to shoot one before I trade for it, bu the guy who has it has never shot it, and doesn't have the factory papers that came with it for the reccomended load to regulate. I know the factory says the rifles are all regulated at 75 yds.

If you are not comfortable with posting a load on the net, my E-mail is DUGABOY1@aol.com

By the way, I have several firearms made by D. Pedersoli,(the maker of the Kodiaks, both cartridge, and muzzle loaders) and I find their quality to be much better than the price would indicate!

I gave the Kodiak some thought several years ago. They are too heavy for my tastes & if I need a 2nd shot in a hurry within 50 yards, I'll use my 50-cal pistola.

I've got two.. one older, one newer.

the older seems to shoot better, and I am launching 620gr maxi's at 1350... tripe 7.

i had to have a trigger job done on them, to make all four truggers the same.

fun to shoot, i enjoy them alot.

Hey Jeffe, Where did you get 620 gr MAXI-balls? The heaviest .58 cal Maxi I can find is a 560 gr ! What load of ffg were you useing itn your .58 Pedersoli double Kodiak? I just traded for one, last Thursday, and have not shot it yet! The owner had never shot it either, so did not know the regulating load, and in his single barrel .58 he only used round balls!

I assume the double uses a comparitively light load to regulate without the recoil moveing the ball in the other barrel forward, but don't know! I'd be interested in knowing all you can tell me about the loading of a .58 cal Kodiak muzzle loader. I'll use round balls if that is all that will shoot in it properly, but would rather use the Maxi ball!

The use of muzzle loading pistols to hunt game is illegal in Texas, so the second shot is nice to have! That is not the only reason I will use the Kodiak .58, however! Here we have a special license that permits residents to hunton on PUBLIC land in the wildlife management areas, and private land that was contracted for public licenses holders to use. In many of the best of thses lands, muzzleloaders, or Bow is all that can be used for deer, and wild Boar! I like to hunt with my double rifles, but didn't have a double barreled muzzle loader, so last Thursday, I traded for a Pedersoli .58 double. I have several muzzle loaders, both rifle, and pistol, but this is the only M/L double I have currently.

Mac,
I didn't know a ML pistol was illegal to hunt with in texas... i need to look that one up, since we can hunt with ANY centerfire round (including a 25acp!!!) for deer.

I got the nei maxi mold and sent it to wayne doudna, and he makes em for me.

I found that rounds don't shoot for SQUAT in either of mine.

I am using 777 ff (tu-ef) and cci "magnum" caps... 1350 fps...

the early one was better regulated, for what it's worth.

Call ashley outdoors (whatever their name is now) and get their "power rod" which is a folding T handled alum rod... it ROCKS!!

Jeffe, I just went back to the regs for Texas, and the muzzleloading Handgun restriction, has evidently been removed from the regs! Sorry about that! I seldom hunt in Texas, so I was going by memory, and that would be from the regs of the early 80s! It may have changed when they made a special season for muzzleloaders! Nice to know, though, as I have a very nice Harper's Ferry .50 cal pistol!
